Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How is Uncommon different from other women’s groups and professional networks?

    We are a vetted community.

We interview every member that comes in to ensure that they are able to contribute to other members and to ensure they are aligned with our principles: beginner’s mindset, generosity, active appreciation, confidentiality, presence and commitment, and approaching difference with curiosity.

    We build real connections.

We were tired of the old way of networking and wanted to foster a community where people can network from a place of generosity.

We bridge the gap between knowledge and action.

We use regular executive coaching sessions and a supportive community to create a safe space where you can apply real-world challenges and practice your leadership toolkit.

  • Why should I pay for the Uncommon network when there are so many free groups?

We believe you get what you pay for and we built Uncommon because the resources available were not specific enough for women in leadership. Our membership fee means we can bring you the best leadership coaches and curate a hand-picked network for you to learn from and grow with.

  • How do you vet Uncommon members?

We are looking for leaders who can have an impact within their organisations and the wider world. We are looking for the strength, length and impact in a potential member’s career.

Beyond being “good on paper”, we interview all potential members to understand their levels of self-awareness, drive for growth and community-orientedness. We also love members who bring a unique passion that they can share with the broader Uncommon community.

  • What are the profiles of Uncommon members?

We have grown Uncommon into an ecosystem of female leaders spanning industries as diverse as tech, finance, shipping, real estate, and more. Our members generally are decision makers in their respective fields: many hold VP and Director positions. We also have our share of Founders and CEOs.

  • What does the Uncommon application process look like?

We go through hundreds of applications and shortlist candidates based on the relevance of their profile. Then we will contact suitable candidates for an interview to better understand their personal and professional objectives and what they are looking for. Following this interview, our Membership Committee will review all applications and curate a diverse group of candidates to join our cohort.

  • How is Uncommon membership structured throughout the year?

The backbone of the Uncommon experience is the Core Group. We match members into a curated peer group of up-to 8 women across industries, led by ICF-certified coaches and subject matter experts.

These groups meet regularly to delve deeper into leadership challenges and development areas.

  • What do you mean by group coaching?

Coaching is one of the most unregulated spaces where anyone can call themselves a coach. We work solely with executive coaches who have led organisations and have worked specifically with established female leaders.

Group coaching enables learning, accountability and development through empathy, while accessing multiple perspectives. Seeing your experience mirrored in a peer’s can make your situation less lonely whilst also sharing real-world best practices. We strongly believe group coaching is one of the best ways to bridge the gap between information and action.

  • Where is Uncommon based? Can I apply from any location?

Yes, you can apply from any location. We first launched and built our network in Singapore but are growing the community internationally. If we think that you are a fit for one of our expansion markets, we will be in touch with you.
